Georgia’s Border Police has installed electronic alarm systems and obstacle fences at three locations along the border to improve monitoring of the areas of the state boundary, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The body said the equipment had been installed in areas near the western city of Batumi, on the border with Turkey, as well as Akhaltsikhe in the south, near the Armenian border, and the Red Bridge in the south-east, adjacent to the border with Azerbaijan.

It added the new additions would provide advance information on attempts of illegal crossings in the sectors.
The Border Police of the Georgian Interior Ministry on Friday began to install warning signs near Georgian borders to inform individuals and companies over possible breaches of law and prevent violations subject to administrative punishment by the domestic legislation.
Georgia’s Border Police on Tuesday said it had arrested a group of five individuals for an attempt of illegal crossing of the state border in the country’s south-west.
The United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Proliferation Prevention Program has donated six troop carriers, two 6,000 liter fuel trucks and seven Suzuki off-road vehicles to the Georgian Border Police ‘to increase mobility to remote border sectors’.
Georgian border guards have been provided with 20 modern Argo all-terrain vehicles (ATV) thanks to financial support from the US Defense and Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).
