Border Police installing warning signs to prevent violations, issues list of fines

The Border Police of the Georgian Interior Ministry on Friday began to install warning signs near Georgian borders to inform individuals and companies over possible breaches of law and prevent violations subject to administrative punishment by the domestic legislation.

  • The body also announced fines set for violation in border zones and strips starting September 1, saying violations committed during tourist, scientific research, hunting, agricultural or other activities would be fined ₾20 ($7).
  • Breaches of law during entrepreneurial activities will be fined ₾50 ($17), while a company fine for the same act will amount to ₾200 ($67). Repeated violation by an individual will see the fine rise to ₾100 ($34) and ₾300 ($101/) for a company.
  • Taking a photo or recording a video of border protection facilities, vehicles and other properties of the Border Police  will result in a ₾50 ($17) fine, with repeated action fined ₾400 ($134). 
  • Violations resulting in delay in the mandatory activities of the Border Police personnel will be fined ₾250 ($84), while repeat violation will lead to a ₾400 ($134) fine. 
  • Finally, breaches of law causing damage to or destruction of border infrastructure will be fined ₾350 ($117), and repeat offenders will be fined ₾400 ($134). 

The body also said to avoid being sanctioned while crossing border zones or strips, both individuals and companies must apply to the Border Police Department and fill in an application form to receive an official permit.

Those applying for the official permit will be able to receive a pass in the headquarters of the Border Police of Georgia in capital Tbilisi, in regional departments of the agency and border sectors.
