Ukrainian Embassy thanks Georgia for welcoming, sheltering Ukrainian citizens

Oleksandr Shulga, the First Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy for Economic Affairs, has expressed gratitude to all countries, including Georgia, that have welcomed and sheltered Ukrainian citizens since the outbreak of war in the country last month.

Speaking on Monday, as the Georgian Government confirmed it had prepared the second large shipment of aid for Ukraine after collecting aid across Georgia, Shulga acknowledged the Government, private sector and citizens of Georgia who had donated for the aid packages sent since the start of the Russian invasion.

The Embassy said 710 tons of aid had been received from Georgia, with the diplomatic representation’s account for aid also receiving donations of 985 000 GEL ($308,000), over $45,000 and €1,500.

More than 20,000 internally displaced persons from Ukraine have been registered in Georgia since the start of the war, Irina Mankhonus, the Second Secretary for Consular Affairs, confirmed, noting Ukrainian nationals had received not only asylum but also the “kindness and warmth of Georgian people”.

The Embassy is working to provide Ukrainian citizens leaving the country with support in coordination with the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Government of Georgia.
