The government of Georgia acts with “necessary caution,” while the country “clearly” stands against aggression in international organisations, Hubert Knirsch, the German Ambassador to Georgiam said in the wake of Russia’s ongoing military invasion of Ukraine on Friday.
Knirsch noted Georgia could relate to the current situation in Ukraine, as the former had also been a victim of Russian aggression.
We see that in this situation, the governments of all countries have to make hard decisions. The Georgian Government, in my opinion, acts distinctly and with necessary caution. Georgia stands very clearly against aggression in international organisations and co-sponsored the UN resolution with its Western partners,” the ambassador told the Georgian Public Broadcaster.
Knirsch added the German side was working with the Georgian Government to overcome the economic and security challenges stemming from the conflict.
Georgia co-sponsored the United Nations Security Council resolution denouncing Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which began on February 24, following President Putin’s announcement of the recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk on February 21.
The international community has condemned the invasion, expressing support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
