The outgoing German Ambassador Hubert Knirsch on Friday released a farewell video extending his gratitude to citizens of Georgia and expressing his confidence that Germany and Georgia would continue to be “good, close partners”.

“Many thanks to all Georgians who we were able to meet with, who followed our work and our path here and who accompanied us with good wishes. One thing is for sure: Germany and Georgia will continue to be good, close partners and we will always remain connected to this country”, Knirsh said in a video posted to social media.

In his remarks Knirsch stressed It had been a “great honour” for him to represent Germany in Georgia and pointed out that relations between the two states were “special”, with a “long-time” tradition.

We wish Georgia further development, first of all, peace and overcoming internal political disagreements, which burden the country. I would like Georgia to successfully continue its path to EU membership, so that no one casts a shadow and harms this fundamental partnership”, he concluded.

Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, will succeed Knirsch in the diplomatic role in Georgia.
