Georgia's International partners are confident that the country is ensuring international sanctions imposed against Russia due its invasion in Ukraine are implemented, making it impossible to bypass them through the Georgian territory, German Ambassador to Georgia Hubert Knirsch said in an interview released on Thursday by the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

Knirsch said he had held conversations with the Georgian Government over the matter and was “convinced” the sanctions were being upheld, following recent claims by some Ukrainian authorities that Georgian territory was being used by Russia to bypass them.

The Ambassador also noted Georgia was working with the Western partners at the United Nations to “strengthen international consensus” to protect Ukraine and its territorial integrity.

In his comments the diplomat also stressed what was happening in Ukraine was not only a threat to the country but also to European peace and security.
