Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Tuesday said Germany was providing the country with “significant support” from the “very first day” of the recognition of Georgia’s independence three decades ago.

Speaking at a forum organised by the German Economic Union and discussing the current economic trends in Georgia, Davitashvili Davitashvili answered questions from German business representatives and briefed them about implemented and planned reforms, as well as the challenges facing the country and ways to overcome them. 

The Economy Ministry said Davitashvili had highlighted the support in the implementation of donor, political, economic and social reforms in the country, stressing that “great contribution” from German partners.

In his notes to the audience that included German Ambassador Hubert Knirsch, the Minister also highlighted Georgia’s economic growth and “favourable” environment for foreign investment. He also noted Germany had invested about €500 million in foreign direct investment in the country to date.
