The Georgian Government is doing everything to "alleviate the difficult moments" for the Ukrainian people under the ongoing invasion of the country by Russia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, the Interior Minister, told reporters  on Wednesday.

The Minister pointed out the Government had done its utmost to support the country amid the ongoing military  aggression, but added Georgia had less opportunity to offer help compared to larger countries.

“[W]e do not have opportunities like Germany, France, or other big EU countries [but we have done] everything in terms of support. We have supported all the resolutions in the UN and many other directions. [W]e are ready to stand by Ukraine,” Gomelauri said.

Gomealuri also responded to the recall of the Ukrainian Ambassador from Georgia, calling the decision “incomprehensible”. Ukraine recalled its Ambassador from Georgia for consultations last week, with President Volodymyr Zelensky citing the Georgian government's refusal to allow volunteers to take part in the conflict as the reason for the move.
