Georgia’s Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri thanked the country’s foreign partners for their “significant support” of the Ministry at the Georgian Parliament on Thursday, while also highlighting areas of ongoing cooperation.

Speaking at the lawmaking body as part of his appearance for the Minister's Hour format, Gomelauri named donations of up to $2,000,000 worth of equipment and training of up to 2,000 employees for the Ministry throughout 2021 as examples of the support provided by international partners.

The Minister said his team had “very active communication” with foreign partners in both planned reports and information meetings, and pointed out areas of ongoing and future cooperation, including the support of donors and partner organisations in strengthening coastal and land border protection capabilities, as well as new infrastructure projects.

Gomelauri told the lawmakers a “number of  legislative changes”, authored by the Ministry, had come into force in 2021, adding further initiatives would be submitted to the legislators this year to “significantly improve public safety and order”.

In his address, Gomelauri expressed gratitude to employees of the Ministry for “tireless work for public order and peaceful development of the country”.
