As an ordinary Georgian and the Minister of Internal Affairs, I once again express my full and open support to our friendly Ukrainian people, Vakhtang Gomelauri told the Georgian Parliament on Thursday during his Minister’s Hour address at the lawmaking body.

Commenting on the ongoing war in Ukraine, Gomelauri said the international community and world leaders must do everything to end the war as soon as possible.

For us [Georgian people], what is happening in Ukraine now is especially painful and important. We experienced and underwent the consequences of this [Russian] aggression in our homeland in 2008. As an ordinary Georgian and Interior Minister, I once again express my full and open support to our friendly Ukrainian people,” Gomelauri said.

The Minister also confirmed the Georgian Government’s support to Ukraine “at all international levels.”

Gomelauri was speaking at the Parliament as part of his turn to address MPs in the ‘Minister’s Hour’ format, where Government officials cover matters concerning their field of work, and answer questions from legislators.

Russia began its military assault on Ukraine last month, following President Putin’s announcement of the recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk on February 21.
