Georgia will continue to provide political support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people at “absolutely all international platforms”, in addition to ensuring humanitarian assistance, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, said on Wednesday.
Mdinaradze expressed “regret” at statements critical of the Georgian Government by some representatives of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Government since the outbreak of hostilities following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month.
In a given situation, we will not dwell on the details and will not really enter into a discussion [over the matter of the comments]. On the contrary, we will continue to provide political support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people at absolutely all international platforms, as well as humanitarian support,Mdinaradze said.
The Georgian MP’s comments follow Ukraine’s recall of its Ambassador from Georgia for consultations last week, with President Volodymyr Zelensky citing the Georgian government's refusal to allow Georgian volunteers to take part in the conflict as the reason for the move.
In his comments, Mdinaradze emphasised Russia was conducting an “open aggression and war” on the territory of Ukraine, violating “absolutely all international norms”. The GD official said “Georgia, whose territories are occupied by Russia, faces a major challenge” in the circumstances.
