Mamuka Mdinaradze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party in the Parliament, on Tuesday said the “radical wing” of the domestic opposition was proceeding with its “harmful, anti-state” campaign by telling the international community “lies” about Georgian authorities failing to fulfil the conditions outlined by the European Union for granting its membership candidate status to the country.
Speaking at the Parliament's plenary session, the lawmaker said the part of the opposition was also using the legislative body’s tribune to spread the “false, anti-state rhetoric" when "only two or three conditions" of total 12 had been left to be fulfilled.
He claimed the actions were aimed at “playing on public emotions” in a bid to spark unrest in the country and overthrow the current Government.
That is why the opposition’s claims that they wish Georgia to receive the status are false”, Mdinaradze said.
The MP also accused President Salome Zourabichvili of “joining the rhetoric” of the “radical opposition” - the term used by authorities mainly in reference to the United National Movement party - through her criticism of the Government meeting the candidacy conditions on a “superficial” level in her Parliamentary address last week.
