The situation in Ukraine is a “catastrophe” and the entire world must “wake up” and stand up to such events in the 21st century, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights of the Georgian Parliament, told journalists on Thursday.
The ruling Georgian Dream party MP stressed all fundamental rights - the right to life, liberty and property - were being violated in the armed conflict in the country.
The situation in Ukraine is a catastrophe brought by the war. There is a well-known saying: during the war, laws are silent. Unfortunately, we are dealing with such a [scenario]. The entire world must wake up and stand up to such events in the 21st century, Sarjveladze said in his comments.
The Georgian government has assisted about 1,500 citizens of the country in evacuations from Ukraine amid the war, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
Georgia will continue to provide political support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people at “absolutely all international platforms”, in addition to ensuring humanitarian assistance, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, said on Wednesday.
