Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has signed the application for European Union membership on behalf of the country, noting the “historic day” in his address to citizens.
“It is a historic day for Georgia – we are signing an Application for EU Membership on behalf of the country. Application for EU Membership is yet another milestone on the path of European integration of Georgia – it is a stage, which turns a new page in our history and continues the effort of our ancestors, which is aimed at the accession of Georgia into a common European family,” the head of the government stated in his address.

The PM’s signing of the EU membership bid follows Wednesday’s reveal by Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling GD (Georgian Dream) party Chairman, of the government’s work on preparing the application in an expedited manner.
On Tuesday, a draft resolution on the country’s EU membership was prepared by the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament. The resolution called on EU member states and institutions to take all necessary steps to accelerate Georgia's accession to the Union.
