Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken told Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Thursday his country would continue to support Georgia in its Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations.
Blinken spoke with Zourabichvili about the global response to the Russian government’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine as well as its continuing occupation of Georgia, the US Department of State said.
The Secretary expressed appreciation for the people of Georgia in the conversation, as well as for Zourabichvili’s “personal, steadfast support” for Ukraine.
Blinken also underscored the firm US commitment to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, on the backdrop of the Russian occupation of two of the country’s regions.
The top US diplomat noted the United States will continue to support the Georgian people in pursuing a “democratic, peaceful, and prosperous” Euro-Atlantic future.
