“The European path is an irreversible choice of the Georgian people,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili said on Thursday as the country officially applied for European Union membership.
Garibashvili said Georgia had “proved” it was a part of the “European family,” noting March 3 was a “historic day” for the country after his signing of the application for EU member candidate status.

David Zalkaliani, Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, congratulated the people of Georgia on the development, tweeting the government would do the “utmost for Georgia to be able to officially join the European family.”

Garibashvili signed Georgia’s application for EU membership earlier today, announcing Georgia was closer to the Union “as never before.”
