Georgia’s Foreign Ministry expects that the questionnaire related to the country’s European Union membership bid will be delivered next week, Mari Narchemashvili, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia told the Georgian Public Broadcaster on Friday.

By adopting the questionnaire, Georgia enters a “new, important stage” of its EU integration process, Narchemashvili said, adding the Government was actively preparing for the further procedure of the membership application.

The Government Commission for Georgia’s Integration into the EU, led by PM Garibashvili, was on April 1 instructed to “effectively coordinate” the process of completing the questionnaire, the foreign office Spokesperson added.

“We are confident that Georgia will succeed in this process, based on the progress that Georgia has made, including in the implementation of reforms,” Narchemashvili noted.

Together with the other Associated Trio countries with aspirations for the EU membership, Georgia receiving the membership questionnaire in “such a short period of time” is a confirmation of European partners' support for integration process and the recognition of the country's successful reforms, the Spokesperson of the Ministry also pointed out.

Prime Minister Garibashvili signed the formal application for Georgia’s European Union membership on behalf of the country on March 3, noting the “historic day” in his address to citizens.

The Government Commission is the main decision-making body on EU integration issues, tasked to oversee the integration process. The Georgian Government has already started taking steps for “individual dialogue" with  European Union member states as part of the process.
