Gov't completes first part of EU membership  questionnaire

The Georgian Government has completed the first part of the questionnaire for the country’s European Union membership bid and will submit it to the Head of European Union Delegation to Georgia Karl Hartzel on Monday, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday. 

Speaking after the 63rd meeting of the Government Commission for Georgia's Integration into the EU, Garibashvili  thanked the state agencies involved in the process of completing the questionnaire for their effort in the process, the Government Administration said.

The meeting noted "active work" was underway to complete the second part of the questionnaire which deals with specific sectors in the country and includes 33 chapters and up to 2300 questions in all sectoral directions.

The Commission meeting discussed the deadlines for completing the second part of the questionnaire. The EU has set May 13 as the date for its submission but the Georgian government is aiming to submit the completed document “as soon as possible”.

The Government will make the sectoral part of the questionnaire public, following a decision by Garibashvili. 

Based on the questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting candidate status to the country, with the relevant decision expected by the end of June.
