Georgia’s national basketball team defeated the Netherlands in the second round of a match for the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday at the newly completed Sports Palace in capital Tbilisi.
Led by the head coach Ilias Zouros, the national team defeated their counterparts with a score 77:66, Tornike Shengelia, the team captain, becoming the top scorer for the team with 20 points and Worthy De Jong scoring 22 points for the Netherlands becoming the top scorer in the match.
Shengelia unfortunately had to leave the court with a shoulder injury in the 3rd quarter and will need a surgery that means the national team will have to play at the Eurobasket without the captain.
The Georgian team is set to hold its next match with Italians on August 27.
