Georgia’s national basketball team loses to Türkiye in first match of Acropolis Tournament

Georgia’s national basketball team opened their participation in the Acropolis International Basketball Tournament with a defeat by Türkiye in the Greek capital city of Athens on Wednesday.

The national team, coached by Ilias Zouros, was defeated by their counterparts with a score of 88:101. In the first quarter, Georgian’s advanced by 10 points, but from the second period opponents gained an advantage.

The Georgian national team will face Greece in their next match on Thursday and Poland in their last match of the tournament on Friday.

Before the match, Zouros stressed the main focus would be on improving the quality of the game, before the official matches at the qualifying stage of the World Cup and Eurobasket, and said the team would “try different new options” both in attack and defence.

He emphasised that friendly matches have given them an opportunity to improve, even while losing, but noted that the team would “fight to win every match”.
