Georgia’s national basketball team defeated Iceland in the second round of a match for the World Cup 2023 European qualifiers on Friday in Reykjavik.
Led by head coach Ilias Zouros, the national team beat their opponents in a close match with a score of 88:85, with Tornike Shengelia, the team captain, who returned to the team for the first time after his shoulder injury against the Netherlands, becoming the top scorer with 27 points and scoring the last decisive point of the match.
The national team has four wins, three rounds before the end of the qualifying stage and is close to the final stage of the World Cup, the team needs to keep its place in the top three of the group.
The Georgian team is set to hold its next match against Italy on Monday in Tbilisi, and the last two matches are scheduled in February against Iceland and the Netherlands.
