The works for the renovation of Metekhi Bridge, one of the oldest bridges in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi, have rounded off the first stage of the project, with traffic restored in the affected section of the bridge, Tbilisi City Hall announced on Wednesday.

Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who inspected the site earlier today, said the project would be completed in September, and added the first phase had included laying asphalt pavement in the lower layers of the construction, replacing tiles and completing the renovation of railings. He also noted a drainage system was being arranged for the bridge to prevent issues during rain.

Insulating protective layers are also being laid under the carriageway of the road, while asphalt concrete pavement, natural stone paving and reinforcement of facades and arches are also part of the effort, with professionals also working to update cast-iron railings on the bridge as part of the second stage of the renovation, the City Hall said.
