French Ambassador to Georgia Diego Colas on Thursday said Georgia was considered a “strategic country” in the Black Sea region.

Colas noted Georgia's place in the agenda of the ongoing NATO Summit as “quite important”, along with pointing out the significance of the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili having been invited to the event and holding meetings with President Emmanuel Macron and other heads of state.

The French diplomat also reviewed a number of assistance packages developed for Georgia within the framework of the Georgia-NATO cooperation, adding NATO had promised more cooperation, more “points of contact” and exercises to “strengthen” Georgia.

The NATO Summit on Wednesday decided to “step up tailored political and practical support” to partners including Georgia. Heads of member states also reaffirmed the decision taken at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Georgia and Ukraine would become members of the alliance.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday said his Government stood ready to work closely with the transatlantic community to “safeguard peace, stability and promote shared values”.
