The NATO Summit in Madrid was “successful” for Georgia, with another “very important step” forward taken in the country's European and Euro-Atlantic integration, Victor Dolidze, the Head of the Georgian mission to NATO, said on Thursday.

"We are satisfied with what we have set, and we have worked in this direction in recent years - the result has been achieved", Dolidze said during his assessment of the Summit, adding “all documents” adopted at the Summit “unequivocally” stated the alliance’s “open door policy” was maintained, including with regard to Georgia.

He also emphasised strengthening Georgia’s defence capabilities and resilience and its ability to deal with global threats remained “important” for members of alliance, and noted the “main goal” of the country was “full membership”.

The Summit on Wednesday decided to “step up tailored political and practical support” to partners including Georgia. Heads of member states also reaffirmed the decision taken at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Georgia and Ukraine would become members of the alliance.
