Four employees of the Tbilisi Transport Company, which manages public transit in the capital city, have been arrested with charges of bribery and attempted fraud.
Arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) in cooperation with relevant services of Tbilisi City Hall and the Prosecutor's Office, the individuals have been accused of “receiving money from various people in exchange for fulfilling their official rights and duties.”
At this stage, several dozen persons have been identified who have transferred money for official service patronage jointly or separately to the employees of the transport company,” the SSS has announced.
The members of the arrested group received a large amount of illegal income, which they shared among themselves, the agency added.
The investigation is led by the anti-corruption agency of the SSS.
Police have detained an employee of Tbilisi City Hall for bribe taking earlier today. The investigation shows that the detained individual promised foreign businessmen to cut down healthy trees in the vicinity of a plot which they were going to buy in the nearest future, as they were going to build a road near the plot.
