Prosecutor's Office arrests former police Head, his Deputy on corruption charges

The professionals of the Department of Criminal Prosecution for Corruption Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia have arrested the former police Head and his Deputy on corruption charges, the state body said on Saturday.

In collaboration with the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office revealed that the former Head of the fourth division of Old Tbilisi Police Division had “falsely accused” a citizen of drug addiction, threatened with arrest and extorted $3,500 from him.

The investigation also established that the Deputy Head of the same division had carried out “an unlawful” search at the citizen’s residence, confiscating his personal belongings without legal basis, which “resulted in substantial material damage”, the body added.
