Officers of Georgia’s Anti-Corruption Agency on Tuesday detained an employee of the Municipal Inspection Service of the Batumi City Hall in the country’s western city, with the official charged with bribery.

The state body, operating under State Security Service, said its investigation had established the offender had taken ₾2400 ($902.31) from a citizen as a bribe in exchange for providing support in establishing unauthorised infrastructure for a catering facility in the city.

It also said its investigation into the case was still ongoing, with the arrested individual facing six to nine years of imprisonment.
