Officers of Georgia’s Anti-Corruption Agency on Tuesday detained an employee of the Municipal Inspection Service of the Batumi City Hall in the country’s western city, with the official charged with bribery.
The state body, operating under State Security Service, said its investigation had established the offender had taken ₾2400 ($902.31) from a citizen as a bribe in exchange for providing support in establishing unauthorised infrastructure for a catering facility in the city.
It also said its investigation into the case was still ongoing, with the arrested individual facing six to nine years of imprisonment.
Tbilisi City Court has sentenced four individuals to five years and six months in prison for psychological and physical abuse of Khanum Jeiranova, a woman found dead in 2014 in eastern Georgia’s Sagarejo municipality, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia announced on Tuesday.
