The Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office on Monday said it had charged an individual for premeditated murder, intentional damage to health, coercion and threats, as well as illegal purchase and carrying of a firearm following an incident that left one dead in Tbilisi on Sunday.

The state body said the individual, identified only through their initials, had been arrested for the crimes committed in a flat on Mirian Mepe Street in the capital city, where the offender had inflicted several gunshot wounds to an acquaintance.

It also said the arrested individual had committed the act while under the influence of alcohol, before preventing another person from calling an emergency for the victim - who died on the spot from the injuries - by threatening them.

The Office added it would ask Tbilisi City Court to use detention as pre-trial measure against the offender, who faces 10 to 15 years in prison.
