Children over 12 year of age with chronic diseases will soon be able to receive Covid-19 vaccines in Georgia, pediatrician and National Immunisation Board member Temur Mikeladze has stated today.
With the permission of the family doctor and parent, any child with chronic diseases will be able to receive a Covid-19 vaccine in Georgia… I’m aware of several cases when 12 and 15 year old children with chronic diseases were fully-vaccinated against Covid-19.... No serious vaccine side effects have occurred so far”, said Mikeladze.
Mikeladze said children with no chronic diseases don’t need to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
The Health Ministry will officially inform the public regarding the vaccination of children in the coming future.
Vaccination against Covid-19 in Georgia is available with Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines on the registration portal https://booking.moh.gov.ge.
Georgia has reported 2,571 new cases of coronavirus, 3,668 recoveries and 60 deaths in the past 24 hours. 35,153 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia. 29,449 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 21,313 of the 29,449 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 8,236 were PCR tests. The country has had 570,493 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.
First grade students will start their first school year on October 4 in all cities and villages of Georgia where the Covid-19 infection rate is below 4%, announces the Ministry of Education of Georgia. "This decision applies only to public schools and is based on the pedagogical opinion that the first school experience of first graders should be conducted in a classroom environment, surrounded by classmates and teachers", reports the ministry.
The government of Georgia has decided to introduce a 2.8 million GEL lottery in order to encourage citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The lottery will start on September 13 and will be drawn on a daily basis on the website www.stopcov.lotto.ge at 12:00 p.m. until the end of the year, offering 100 and 500 GEL prizes.
Forty-six per cent of teachers have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in Georgia as of August 31, the Ministry of Education and Science told Interpressnews agency today. Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said on August 27 that if 80% of Georgian teachers are not fully-vaccinated, the Interagency Coordination Council will not recommend opening schools.

Georgia has reported 2,533 new cases of Covid-19 in Georgia after conducting a total of 34,383 tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the 2,533 new cases 924 were reported in Tbilisi.
A total of 20.2% of Georgian population has been fully vaccinated, the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced earlier today. Based on the data shared by the NCDC the number of fully vaccinated individuals in Georgia stands at 577,162.
Georgia has reported 1,838 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting a total of 23,605 tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the new cases 675 were reported in Tbilisi. Meanwhile, 5,289 individuals have recovered and 39 patients have died.
The rate of fully-vaccinated teachers stands at 36 per cent in Georgia, Head of the National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said today.
The new school year started in Georgia today, but due to the epidemiological situation in the country students will not be able to attend lessons in classrooms, but will start studies online. However, Georgian Minister of Education Mikheil Chkhenkeli said that studies will continue in person starting October 4 in all cities and villages of Georgia where the infection rate is below 4%. The Georgian Ministry of Education has denied rumours that teachers will be obliged to get vaccinated against Covid-19. General Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze told Rustavi 2 on September 30 that ‘a draft law on mandatory vaccination for teachers is being prepared’.
