Georgia launches Covid-19 vaccine application with QR code reader

The Ministry of Health of Georgia has developed an application to read QR codes containing information about an individual’s PCR test results of the past 72 hours, whether an individual has recovered from Covid-19 in the past six months and how many doses of the Covid-19 vaccine a citizen has received.
The application will be launched next week.
Head of the Labour Conditions Inspection Department Beka Peradze commented:
In the coming days, we will hold meetings with businesses and inform them about how to use this application and what benefits it may have. Many organisations have already introduced this application and we have checked that it is running quite successfully.”
Individuals without smartphones will be able to print out QR codes which will be scannable by the application.
The government of Georgia has decided to introduce a 2.8 million GEL lottery in order to encourage citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The lottery will start on September 13 and will be drawn on a daily basis on the website www.stopcov.lotto.ge at 12:00 p.m. until the end of the year, offering 100 and 500 GEL prizes.
Public transport in all large Georgian cities will resume operations from September 13 while sports competitions in the country will be held without spectators in attendance, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Gibradze announced today. Georgian law enforcers have detained seven individuals for making and selling fake Covid-19 vaccine documents today, reports the State Security Service of Georgia (SSS).
Fully vaccinated Georgian citizens are already able to get digital Covid certificates including QR codes to sweep away barriers on travel between countries, Deputy Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Paata Imnadze told Formula TV yesterday.
First grade students will start their first school year on October 4 in all cities and villages of Georgia where the Covid-19 infection rate is below 4%, announces the Ministry of Education of Georgia. "This decision applies only to public schools and is based on the pedagogical opinion that the first school experience of first graders should be conducted in a classroom environment, surrounded by classmates and teachers", reports the ministry.
Georgia has reported 2,571 new cases of coronavirus, 3,668 recoveries and 60 deaths in the past 24 hours. 35,153 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia. 29,449 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 21,313 of the 29,449 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 8,236 were PCR tests. The country has had 570,493 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.
Georgia has reported 2,455 new cases of coronavirus, 4,427 recoveries and 58 deaths in the past 24 hours. In total, 36,151 tests have been conducted around the country of which 19,693 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 16,458 were PCR tests. 6.79% of tested individuals had Covid-19 as of September 8. Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 572,948 cases of coronavirus, 531,764 recoveries and 8,035 deaths.
