The new school year started in Georgia today, but due to the epidemiological situation in the country students will not be able to attend lessons in classrooms, but will start studies online.
However, Georgian Minister of Education Mikheil Chkhenkeli said that studies will continue in person starting October 4 in all cities and villages of Georgia where the infection rate is below 4%.
The school year started today for all but first grade students, who will start their first school year on October 4 in classrooms, again if the infection rate is below 4%.
This decision applies only to public schools and is based on the pedagogical opinion that the first school experience of first graders should be conducted in a classroom environment, surrounded by classmates and teachers.
As for private schools, it is up to them to choose whether to start studies of first graders online today, or from October 4 in classrooms.
The Ministry of Education announced that to support online studies pupils and teachers of both public and private schools will benefit from a preferential mobile internet package during the 2021-2022 school year.
