2020 data: Georgia’s hospitality sector offers 26,897 rooms

In Georgia 1,054 hotels were operating in 2020 featuring 26,897 rooms in total, official statistics from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) show.

Geostat says that the total number of rooms decreased by 23.4% year-on-year.

Distribution of the number of rooms in hotels is as follows:

  • 16,066 were double rooms
  • 4,894 were triple rooms or larger
  • 3,530 were single rooms
  • 2,407 were lux

The number of visitors in hotels and hotel type enterprises reached 1.34 million in 2020 (-66.5%) of which:

  • 66.2% people stayed for recreation and rest       
  • 17.3% – for business trips
  • 5.1% – for treatment     
  • 11.4% - other purpose     

The majority of foreign guests staying in hotels and hotel-type enterprises with the main purpose of holiday and recreation were Russian and Israel nationals (22.3% and 12.3%), said Geostat. 

Geostat said that 30.6% of the guests were foreigners.

The number of people employed at the hotels reached 13,615 of which 54.8% were women.
