Revenue from international tourism up 45.6% in Jan-Aug 2021 y/y

Georgia has received $703.9 million from international tourism in January-August 2021, which is 45.6% more compared to the same period of last year, says the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

In August alone Georgia received $198.8 million, which is an increase of 1,243% compared to 2020 and a decrease of 51.8% compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019. 

Georgia hosted 266,544 visitors in August 2021 which is a 510% increase compared to the same month of 2020, however it is still 75% less compared to August 2019.

The top 10 countries from where visitors came in August were:

  • Russia - 39,909 visitors (+809%)
  • Turkey - 34,847 visitors (+ 114%)
  • Ukraine - 29,372 visitors (+2,849%)
  • Georgia (non-residents) - 23,117 visitors (+390%)
  • Armenia - 22,733 visitors (+161%)
  • Saudi Arabia - 16,436 visitors (+ 16,435%)
  • Belarus - 13,494 visitors (+5,678%)
  • Kazakhstan - 12,221 visitors (+2,489%)
  • Azerbaijan - 11,181 visitors (+ 198%)
  • Poland - 6,954 visitors (+12,100%)
