Q2 2021 data: Georgian tourists made 1.41 mln visits inside the country

About 1.23 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years or more made 1. 41 million visits within Georgia per month in the second quarter of 2021, show the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
The number of visitors has increased twice in comparison to the corresponding data for the second quarter of the previous year", said Geostat.
In the same quarter the monthly average number of tourists visits of Georgian residents amounted to 654,500, which is 112.3% higher than the indicator of the same period of the previous year.
The majority of the visits comes on the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi (average 316,200 visits per month) and Imereti region (253,900 visits per month).
The top reasons for internal travel were:
- Visiting friends/relatives – 47%
- Visiting another property [summer cottage, house, etc.] – 17.5%
- Shopping – 14.1%
- Health and medical care – 7.8%
- Holiday/leisure – 7%
- Business or professional – 3.1%
- Religion/pilgrimage – 1.6%
- Education/trainings – 0.1%
People aged 31-50 were amongst the most avid domestic travellers (38.3%). 53.6% of visits were made by women, says Geostat.
In Georgia 1,054 hotels were operating in 2020 featuring 26,897 rooms in total, official statistics from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) show. Geostat says that the total number of rooms decreased by 23.4% year-on-year.
Following the growth of tourist flows to the Georgian regions of Svaneti and Adjara, United Airports of Georgia has decided to increase the frequency of domestic lights in July and August. Flights along the route of Natakhtari-Mestia-Natakhtari and Tbilisi-Batumi-Tbilisi will increase.

About 596,500 Georgian tourists aged 15 years or more made 675,700 visits (-37.2%) within Georgia in the second quarter of 2020.
Georgia has received $703.9 million from international tourism in January-August 2021, which is 45.6% more compared to the same period of last year, says the National Bank of Georgia (NBG). In August alone Georgia received $198.8 million, which is an increase of 1,243% compared to 2020 and a decrease of 51.8% compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
About 1.37 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years and up made 1.57 million trips within Georgia in the third quarter of 2021, which is a 20.1% increase compared to the same period last year, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
About 1.2 million Georgian citizens aged 15 and above made 1.4 million monthly visits within the country in 2021 with a total expenditures amounting to 226 million GEL ($70 mln/€63.7 mln), the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) show.
