Domestic tourism data: number of domestic visitors up 23.4% in Georgia

About 1.09 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years or more made 1. 23 million visits within Georgia per month in the first quarter of 2021, show the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Geostat said that the number of visitors increased by 23.4% year-on-year.
In the same the monthly average number of tourists visits of Georgian residents amounted to 554,000, which is 28.8% higher than the indicator of the same period of the previous year.
The majority of the visits comes on the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi (average 262,000 visits per month) and Imereti region (210,000 visits per month).
The top reasons for internal travel were:
- Visiting friends/relatives – 47.1%
- Visiting another property [summer cottage, house, etc.] – 14.4%
- Shopping – 14%
- Health and medical care – 10.2%
- Holiday/leisure – 5.3%
- Business or professional – 5.3%
- Religion/pilgrimage – 1.8%
- Education/trainings – 0.1%
People aged 31-50 were amongst the most avid domestic travellers (39%). 50.9% of visits were made by women, says Geostat.
About 910,800 Georgian tourists aged 15 years or more made one million visits (-37.2%) within Georgia in 2020. The number of visitors has decreased by 8.3% year-on-year, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
About 596,500 Georgian tourists aged 15 years or more made 675,700 visits (-37.2%) within Georgia in the second quarter of 2020.
The government of Georgia is launching a new state programme 'Travel for Georgia' to promote domestic tourism, announced Georgian Prime MInister Giorgi Gakharia at today's government meeting.
Domestic tourism resumes today in Georgia, while the country will open its doors to international tourists on July 1. Railway travel also resumes today. Georgian Railway officials say the company is ready to ensure the safe transportation of passengers and to implement the regulations imposed by the Ministry of Health of Georgia.
Following the growth of tourist flows to the Georgian regions of Svaneti and Adjara, United Airports of Georgia has decided to increase the frequency of domestic lights in July and August. Flights along the route of Natakhtari-Mestia-Natakhtari and Tbilisi-Batumi-Tbilisi will increase.
A total of 695,000 international visits have been carried out to Georgia in January-July 2021 which is a 45.5% decrease compared to the same period of last year, and 83% decrease compared to January-July 2019, announces the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

The number of visitors has increased twice in comparison to the corresponding data for the second quarter of the previous year.
About 1.37 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years and up made 1.57 million trips within Georgia in the third quarter of 2021, which is a 20.1% increase compared to the same period last year, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
