July 2021: number of international visits up 403.7% in Georgia

A total of 695,000 international visits have been carried out to Georgia in January-July 2021 which is a 45.5% decrease compared to the same period of last year, and 83% decrease compared to January-July 2019, announces the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

In July 2021 alone, a total of 230,900 international visits were carried out in the country, registering the highest rate during the pandemic period. The number of international visits increased 403.7% year-on-year, however decreased 73.8% compared to July 2019.

The top three countries from where visits have been carried out in July were:

  1. Turkey - 35,000 visits (+91.3%)
  2. Russia - 25,100 visits (+497.9%)
  3. Ukraine - 24,500 visits (+1,932%)

Other countries from where most visits have been carried out were Armenia (19,700 visits), Israel (17,600 visits), Georgia (non-residents, 15,000 visits), Saudi Arabia (12,900 visits), Kazakhstan (9,500 visits), Belarus (9,400 visits), and Azerbaijan, (8,400 visits).

Statistics show that 60% of the visits were made by air, 39% by land, 0.8% by rail and 0.2% by sea.

In January-June 2021 Georgia received $299.8 million which is 34% less compared to the same period of 2020. 

To compare, in the same period of 2019 revenues from international tourism reached $1.46 billion in Georgia.
