1.2 mln Georgian citizens spend 226 mln GEL on domestic tourism in 2021

About 1.2 million Georgian citizens aged 15 and above made 1.4 million monthly visits within the country in 2021 with a total expenditures amounting to 226 million GEL ($70 mln/€63.7 mln), the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) show.
In 2021, the monthly average number of domestic tourist visits by Georgian residents amounted to 662.6, which is an increase of 37.9 percent compared to the previous year.
The majority of the visits came on the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi (average 300,1 visits per month) and the western Imereti region (241,9 visits per month).

The top reasons for internal travel were:
- Visiting friends/relatives – 46.9%
- Visiting another property [summer cottage, house, etc.] – 15.9%
- Shopping – 13.2%
- Health and medical care – 8.9%
- Holiday/leisure – 8.1%
- Business or professional – 3.5%
- Religion/pilgrimage – 1.5%
- Education/trainings – 0.2%
Last year, people aged 31-50 were among the most avid domestic travellers (38.4 percent), while 53.6 percent of visits were made by women, Geostat said.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the monthly average number of visitors increased by 26.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
A total of 165,626 international travellers visited Georgia in February 2022, marking a 35.3 percent recovery from the pre-pandemic 2019 figures and an increase of 297 percent compared to 2021, the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) announced on Friday.
About 1.37 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years and up made 1.57 million trips within Georgia in the third quarter of 2021, which is a 20.1% increase compared to the same period last year, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The number of visitors has increased twice in comparison to the corresponding data for the second quarter of the previous year.
Following the growth of tourist flows to the Georgian regions of Svaneti and Adjara, United Airports of Georgia has decided to increase the frequency of domestic lights in July and August. Flights along the route of Natakhtari-Mestia-Natakhtari and Tbilisi-Batumi-Tbilisi will increase.
Revenue from international travellers amounted to $394 million in January-March 2022 in Georgia, an increase of about $340 million compared to the previous year and a 68.1 percent recovery compared to 2019, the Georgian National Tourism Administration revealed on Monday.
Passengers will benefit from additional flights to the highland town of Mestia and the city of Ambrolauri in Georgia’s northwest for May 26 Independence Day celebrations, the United Airports of Georgia has announced.
