The construction of the new 10,000-seats sports hall in Tbilisi has already begun and will end by June 2021, reports the government of Georgia.
The new hall will be built next to the sports complex 'New Tbilisi' which opened in 2015, and will be connected to two other sports halls, with a total hosting capacity of 13,800, divided into halls that can seat 10,000, 3,000 and 800.
The multifunctional sports complex will host Eurobasket 2021, the European Championship in basketball.
Hosting the Eurobasket 2021 group stage matches is very important for development not only sports, but tourism," said Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia earlier today.
Prague (Czech Republic), Tbilisi (Georgia), Milan (Italy) and Cologne (Germany) will host the first phase groups while the final round of the tournament will be held in the German capital city of Berlin.
Group stage matches in Eurobasket 2021 will take place on September 2-19, 2021.
The total cost of the project is 71 million GEL ($25.4 mln/€23.4 mln).
