The Georgian national basketball team has defeated Switzerland in the qualifying match of EuroBasket 2022 on Monday in Espoo, Finland. The match ended with a score of 91:84 Georgia.

After the victory over Switzerland, the captain of the Georgian national basketball team Tornike Shengelia thanked his coaches and teammates.
The victory did not come by chance. Our coaching staff calculated everything well, chose the right tactics both in defense and offense… The Georgian national basketball team has gone to the European Championship, because Georgia is co-hosting EuroBasket tournament in 2022”.
We play these games for Georgia and the Georgian people. We [the team members] know every little positive spark is important to our people. Thank God we won these games for them. I’m proud of my boys, we play as one big family”, said Shengelia.
Thaddus McFadden was the top scorer of the match with 24 points and Tornike Shengelia had 17. Givi Bakradze scored 12, while Giorgi Shermadini had 11.
Georgia will co-host the postponed EuroBasket tournament in 2022 with Italy, Germany and Czech Republic.
The Georgian capital of Tbilisi will have a new sports complex by the end of 2021, which will host 10,000 people for the EuroBasket tournament.
