Three Russian citizens detained for online drug trafficking in Georgia

The Head of Kakheti Regional Office of the Department of Environmental Supervision, Besik Shubitidze was shot and injured by poachers while carrying out his official duties yesterday. 

A Tbilisi court has sentenced a drug dealer identified only as V. Zh. and arrested in the May 2018 raid of Gallery nightclub to eight years in prison for the sale, purchase and distribution of drugs in large quantities.

The ministry says that so-called ‘drug-shops’ were set up on Telegram messenger and internet platform Matanga, through which the drug dealers would connect with their clients and agree upon drop spots.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained an Iranian citizen when he illegally crossed the border to smuggle in 8 kg and 500 grams of heroin into Georgia.

Two individuals have been detained in Tbilisi for online drug trafficking, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported earlier today.

Rustavi City Court has sentenced two Iranian citizens to 16 years in jail for the smuggling and possession of narcotics in especially large quantities into Georgia. 

Georgian law enforcers have detained three people and prevented a drug deal taking place. A Russian citizen was arrested for illegal purchase and distribution of drugs.

Officers of the Adjara Department of Georgia’s Interior Ministry have arrested a Turkish citizen, born in 1970, identified only as I.Ch. for illegal purchase of drugs in especially large quantities.

The Interior Ministry has destroyed narcotic substances worth approximately 55 million GEL ($20 mln/€ 18 mln). The drugs were seized during 737 investigating operations conducted around the country at different times, the Ministry reported.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has detained two Iranian and an Azerbaijani citizen for the purchase and possession of about two kg of heroin in the eastern Georgian region of Kvemo Kartli. The crime is punishable by eight to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has charged 77 individuals of smuggling drugs into Georgia in between January and July 2019.  The Ministry reports that three were detained for attempting to smuggle drugs in Georgia several days ago. 

Georgian police have detained an Azerbaijani national identified only as G.H. (b. 1991) for illegal possession of drugs in large quantities on July 30. Patrol police officers ordered G.H. to stop his car in order to carry out a check on July 30 in Rustavi, after which he got out of the car and attempted to escape but police arrested him.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has destroyed narcotic and psychotropic drugs worth three million USD (9 million GEL), confiscated during the investigation of 765 different cases around the country, the ministry has reported earlier today. 

The Georgian Interior Ministry reports that they have detained eight individuals for drug crimes over the past several days. Five of the detainees are drug traffickers, the ministry says. 

Georgian police have seized heroin in especially large quantities from a Turkish citizen in Georgia’s western coastal city of Batumi. The individual, who was identified as M.I., 46, has been charged with the possession of drugs.

Georgian police have detained two foreign nationals for the possession of 1,557 pills of ecstasy. The police have not released information pertaining to the the countries of origin of the detainees. 

Turkish border guards have detained Azerbaijani citizen Ruslan Gurbanov for smuggling 5,450 water turtles into Turkey via Georgia, Turkish media outlets report.  

Police have detained five individuals for the illegal purchase, possession and sale of a large amount of drugs in Kakheti today, reports the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA).
