Titles by Georgian authors and publishers from the country are set to be introduced to readers in Europe as major book fairs in London and Leipzig host literature fans this month.

Following last year’s major display of Georgian literature, artists and culture at the Frankfurt Book Fair — where they enjoyed the official Guest of Honour status — hundreds of books and their publishing houses will be present at the country’s stands of the two events.

In London, the national booth will await visitors between 12-14 March, marking its seventh appearance at the annual celebration of literature, hosted at Olympia London fairgrounds.

Georgia Made by Characters, a visual concept for introducing the country’s cultural figures and phenomena through its alphabet, will serve as the theme for the booth, following its presentation in Frankfurt as well as last year’s London fair.

More than 1,500 publishers and literary agencies are expected to be represented at the fair, while 25 pavilions will feature representations from 60 countries.

Among high-profile visitors of the event will be Jürgen Boss, president and CEO of the Frankfurt fair, who will host a joint reception along with the Georgian National Book Centre in the capital city.

Little over a week later, Georgian authors including Diana Anphimiadi, Aka Morchiladze and Nana Ekvtimishvili will meet book enthusiasts at the Leipzig Book Fair.

They will be joined by Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili, Aleko Shughladze, Dato Robakidze, Irma Taverlidze, Gaga Nakhutsrishvili and Nato Ingorokva in the sizeable selection of writers from the country travelling to the German city.

In addition, Museum of Literature Director Lasha Bakradze and literary critic Zaal Andronikashvili will highlight selected publications of Georgian hagiography and German editions of works by Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, 18th century Georgian writer and diplomat, at the event.

Those interested in poetry will be invited to attend sessions of reading of works by Besik Kharanauli and Rati Amaglobeli, two authors previously showcased in German literary events throughout 2018.

The Leipzig fair, seen as the second most important in Germany after the Frankfurt annual, will be open for visitors between 21-24 March.
