3,573 cases of illegal logging, transportation of timber registered in 2019

The State Sub-Agency Department of Environmental Supervision has registered 3,573 cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber in 2019.

Out of these 3,573 cases, 199 of them may be criminally prosecutable.

Illegal logging and transportation of timber were registered in the following regions:

• Kakheti – 1,415 cases
• Imereti – 438 cases
• Samtskhe-Javakheti – 422 cases
• Adjara – 372 cases
• Kvemo Kartli – 300 cases
• Shida Kartli – 211 cases
• Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 193 cases
• Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 99 cases
• Racha-Letchkhumi and Lower Svaneti – 56 cases
• Guria – 51 cases

16 cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber were registered in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

In total, illegal logging and transportation of timber amounted to about 21,100 cubic metres, says the agency.
