251 cases of illegal logging and timber transportation were recorded in between July 1-31, the Environmental Supervision Department reports. 

Twenty-two cases may be criminal offenses. 

Cases of illegal logging were uncovered in:

  • Kakheti regional division - 89 cases
  • Atchara regional division – 41 cases
  • Imereti – 32 cases
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 24 cases

Violations were also revealed in Kvemo Kartli, Guria, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

In total, up to 1,160 cubic meters of illegally felled timber have been recovered. 

Fifty-six cases of violating technical regulations at sawmills were recorded as well.
