2,754 cases of illegal logging, transportation of timber were recorded in 2020, says the Ministry of Environmental protection and Agriculture.
Out of these 2,754 cases, 132 of them may be criminally prosecutable.
Cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber were recorded in the following regions:
- Kakheti – 1,046 cases
- Imereti – 424 cases
- Samtskhe-Javakheti – 279 cases
- Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 241 cases
- Kvemo Kartli – 216 cases
- Adjara – 221 cases
- Shida Kartli – 188 cases
- Mtskheta–Mtianeti – 72 cases
- Guria – 39 cases
- Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 22 cases
Six cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber were recorded in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
In total, illegal logging and transportation of timber amounted to about 16,600 cubic metres, says the ministry.
The State Sub-Agency Department of Environmental Supervision has registered 309 cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber throughout Georgia in January 2020.
The State Sub-Agency Department of Environmental Supervision (DES) registered 4,121 cases of environmental violations throughout Georgia in January-June 2020.

The State Sub-Agency Department of Environmental Supervision has registered 3,573 cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber in 2019.
Illegal forest felling, waste management violations and breaches of laws on minerals were among environmental infringements identified by state supervision across Georgia over the past year, the Environmental Protection Ministry said on Friday.
