210 cases of illegal logging recorded in Georgia in April 2021

The State Sub-Agency Department of Environmental Supervision has recorded 210 cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber throughout Georgia in April 2021.

Out of 210 cases, 12 of them may be criminally prosecutable, the agency says.

Illegal logging and transportation of timber were recorded in 10 regions:

  • Kakheti – 55 cases;
  • Imereti – 37 cases;
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 30 cases;
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 26 cases;
  • Shida Kartli – 17 cases;
  • Kvemo Kartli – 17 cases;
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 2 cases;
  • Ajara –  15 cases;
  • Guria – 2 cases;
  • Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti – 9 cases.

In total, the agency recorded 250 cubic meters of illegally extracted timber in April.
