Travellers headed for Georgia's famous ski resort of Bakuriani will soon be able to drive on a new bypass that detours the resort, passes through the forest and ends up in the Didveli ski zone.
The construction of the 3km Bakuriani bypass road is in its final phase and is scheduled to be opened by the end of this month, announces the Municipal Development Fund.
The total cost of the project is 6 million GEL (about $2.1/€1.8 million) and has been financed by the European Investment Bank.
The aim of the project is to prevent frequent traffic jams in Bakuriani which hinder the fluid and safe movement for tourists and locals.
Construction of the road started in the summer of 2018.
Apart from the construction of the bypass road, the Municipal Development Fund is implementing a number of major infrastructure projects in Bakuriani.
In total, the Municipal Development Fund invests 55 million GEL (about $18.8/€16.9 million) in Bakuriani.
Furthermore, international company Doppelmayr Garaventa Group will build three new ski lifts in Bakuriani to help the resort get ready to host the 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships.
