Georgian regions adapting to growing tourist influx

Georgia is currently experiencing a building boom of new hotels and guesthouses, which is providing new beds for the growing number of tourists and guests.

There are 17,956 beds available in Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi, shows the latest data from the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

Here are the number of beds for tourists in Georgia by region:

Adjara – 12,126 beds
Samtskhe-Javakheti – 9,750 beds
Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 5,290 beds
Samegerlo-Zemo Svaneti – 5,227 beds
Imereti – 4,952 beds
Guria - 4,564 beds
Kakheti – 3,614 beds
Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti – 1,423 beds
Kvemo Kartli – 554 beds
Shida Kartli – 485 beds

2017’s tourist numbers reached a record high of 7,555, 936 travellers, which is 18.8 percent more compared to 2016.

In order to improve services in the hospitality sector of Georgia, people involved in this sector are undergoing constant trainings. Georgia’s Ministry of Economy announced that 100 employees of hotels and guesthouses have been trained recently.

PM expects Georgia to host over 8m international visitors in 2018

New hotel opens in Georgian wine region of Kakheti

A brand new hotel has been opened in Georgia’s eastern region of Kakheti today. Co-financed through the Ministry of Economy’s Enterprise Georgia project, the Bank of Georgia and EU financial programmes, the 7.5 million GEL Akhalsheni Wine Resort is ready to welcome guests.

February 2018: Georgia hosts 440,806 international travellers

A total of 440,806 international travellers visited Georgia in February 2018 of which 177,845 were tourists, says the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

Month-on-month, the number of international travellers (tourists, transit, other) increased by 19.8 percent, while the number of tourists (individuals that spend more than 24 hours in the country) increased by 27.1 percent.

Georgia 4th among world’s fastest-growing tourism destinations

Georgia has taken the fourth position as the world’s most fast-growing tourism destinations in the World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) 2017 report. The report reads that in 2017 the number of tourists particularly increased for trips to Egypt, Togo, Vietnam and Georgia.
