Russia, Greece, Italy are largest remittance senders in April 2018

Russia, Greece and Italy are the largest remittance senders in April 2018, says the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

Last month Georgia received $35.3 million in remittances from Russia, $14.5 million from Italy and $14.9 million from Greece.

Overall, the volume of money transfers from abroad to Georgia constituted $123.9 million, which is 17.1 percent more than the amount in April 2017.

The vast majority (92.68 percent) of all money transfers from abroad came from 15 countries.

After Russia, Italy and Greece, other countries from where money transfers are regularly sent to Georgia in April 2018 included:

  • United States – $12.7 million
  • Israel - $11.8 million
  • Turkey - $9.3 million
  • Spain - $ 3.4 million
  • Germany - $3.3 million
  • Ukraine - $2.2 million
  • Azerbaijan - $1.5 million
  • France - $1.5 million
  • United Kingdom - $1.3 million
  • Kazakhstan - $1.1 million
  • Poland - $1 million
  • Canada - $1 million

Remittances leaving Georgia totalled $18.5 million in April of 2017.
