Georgian peacekeepers in Afghanistan receive letters from children

Georgian children from the capital of Tbilisi and other towns in Georgia sent letters of support to soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

Young students from the public schools of Tbilisi, Poti, Mestia, Marneuli and Kutaisi wished the Georgian peacekeepers a safe return to their homeland.

‘A Letter to a Soldier’ is a joint project of the Georgian Defense, Justice and Education ministries that is being carried out from 2012.

The project aims at encouraging and supporting the peacekeepers serving away from their homeland.

The 23rd Battalion of II Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces serves in the Resolute Support multinational mission in Afghanistan.

Before their send-off to Afghanistan the 23rd Battalion troops underwent mission preparation in Georgia and a final exercise at US Army’s Joint Multinational Readiness Centre in Hohenfels, Germany.

The Resolute Support mission launched in early 2015 as a follow-on task from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission, which also saw participation of Georgian troops.

Georgia is currently the largest, non-NATO contributor to NATO Resolute Support mission with 885 troops.
