Defence Minister: Georgia to keep contributing to NATO Resolute Support mission

Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria has pledged further support for NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.

Izoria spoke at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council with Resolute Support operational partner nations at the level of Defence Ministers. The event was held in Brussels and was opened by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

In his speech Izoria focused on ensuring international security and stability and stressed the role of Georgia as a strategic partner of NATO.

"A total of 870 Georgian servicemen are serving in Afghanistan. We will maintain this amount of our contribution in the future in order to ensure international security together with our partners”, Izoria said.

While in Brussels, Izoria held bilateral meetings with his Swedish, Finnish and Lithuanian counterparts. After the meetings the officials announced that the Swedish and Finnish Defence Ministers will pay a visit to Georgia in September while Izoria will visit Lithuania by the end of September.
